William definitely inherited his mother's hair. And oh, how much hair there is! He and John-Raven always had great hair, especially of the bed head variety, as evidenced by the most recent/last post currently on this blog. (*It's fitting that these are posts about his hair, ten years apart. See the footnote at the bottom of this.)
William has experienced a lot of growth over the last couple of years, and nowhere has that been more obvious than from his man bun (which is the only way he could wear his hair while this long. Otherwise it would get caught in parts of his chair.)
Other than a couple of minor trims to the ends, he's been growing this for almost two years. November of 2024 was his last real haircut. Why did we start growing it out? A few reasons, really. For one thing, due to the contractures in his neck, the left side of his head presses pretty hard against his chair's headrest, which can irritate his skin and even create sore spots on his head. We've even seen him lose hair there as a result. So when we noticed that longer hair provided a slight buffer and proteect aginst the sorst irritation, we decided to keep it a little longer.
Plus, the kid has great hair, so why not?
One other reason we wanted to try growing it out was that, as thick and full as his hair is, we thought it might be nice to donate it to a chairty that can use it to make wigs for other kids who can't grow hair. So, Mom braided sections of his hair...
...and Dad made the cuts followed by an attempt at shaping his remaining hair.
Here's what we ended up with.
It doesn't look like much, but each of those are about 10-12 inches long!
William seems satisfied with his fresh, lighter haircut, and Dad is happy that William's showers will be that much easier to complete without that giant mass of thick hair. And some kid somewhere will, we assume, be wearing a wig made at least partly from the effort.
*A Footnote: You might notice that this post is just over ten years since the last post on this blog. Back then, we had been posting on both Blogger and Facebook and decided to start consolidating our posts onto just the Facebook page. It made sense at the time. Over the years, however, Facebook has made operating that page increasingly cumbersome and less meaningful. Plus, sometimes pages like this get deleted, or the page's owners get locked out. Add to that, ya know, the Facebook of it all, and it made sense to find a different place. After considering multiple options, I really felt that a return to this old-school blogspot site just made sense. It's a straightforward, and pleasantly nostalgic, way to keep people updated on us (okay, mostly to keep people updated on William) and preserve a bit of a public record, like a family photo album for others to see. We won't necessarily be shutting down our Facebook page (located at facebook.com/thecobbquad) but I will be migrating at least some (maybe all?) of those posts to this site. I might even throw in some other material. Amanda will continue to post family/William updates to FB as she has been, and Matt will continue to not post much there at all. We'll try to make sure that any significant updates, pictures, and videos posted elsewhere also end up here. We always liked the way this blog worked, and we like it even better now in an age where a blog almost seems a bit quaint compared to the rush and flash of other platforms.
